Who is he?
Taylor is the Captain of the Volga
What did he contribute to New Zealand?
Captain Taylor mistook the Bay’s identity anchored in the bay.
Captain Taylor was then announced guilty for a navigational mistake in the bay.
In the cause of the Volga’s incident which is then named the bay as “ Taylor mistake”.

He is the founder of Canterbury
3. Godley Head
What?
Godley Head was a WW2 coastal defence battery that was built in a 120-metre high cliff in 1939.
Why?
To look out for the Russians and Japanese people

- Travel back in time to the dark days of WWII when an invasion of New Zealand seemed likely – Stand in a concrete Observation Post and look out for enemy ships.
- Pack a picnic – there are a lot of great spots.
- Start the trip from Taylors Mistake and make a day of it – complete with sand and surf on your way home.
