Theme:
Rich vs Poor
Colour is used effectively to show the theme of rich vs poor. This is demonstrated in the two scenes - District 12 at the start of the film and the Capitol as Katniss and Peta arrive on the train. In District 12 a natural, dull and dark palette of greens and browns is used to create a wild atmosphere. In the Capitol, a metallic, industrial colour palette of whites, silvers and greys is used to create a feeling of an advanced society. The purpose of this is to show the rich vs poor in the two societies. The Capitol has more bright colours and advanced buildings and technologies, whereas District 12 has dull colours to show their rundown buildings and overworn clothing. Combined with the used costumes we're able to see the divide between the wealthy in the Capitol and the poor of District 12. This reminds the audience of the Riot scene later in the film when the poor citizens if District 11 rebel against the rule of the Capitol.

Science - Wet Cell Batteries & Dry Cell Batteries
Wet Cell Batteries & Dry Cell Batteries

https://5.imimg.com/data5/GC/GS/MY-40618945/dry-cell-battery-250x250-250x250.png |
What is the difference between "wet cell batteries" and dry cell batteries?
Wet cell batteries use a liquid electrolyte and the dry cell batteries use a paste electrolyte.
Where do we commonly find examples of each?
Wet cell batteries are commonly found in aviation, electric utilities, energy storage, and cellphone towers. Dry cell batteries are commonly found in portable electronics like toys, laptops, and phones. Why are some batteries able to be recharge and others not?
For batteries to be able to be recharged, it depends on the material used to make the battery. Some batteries that use alkaline are not as effective as lithium-ion because lithium-ion is more reactive than alkaline. Primary cell batteries aren't capable of recharging because of the elements used, they use cheaper materials such as manganese that are great for low-draw devices like flashlights. Secondary cells use lithium which is more expensive and great at high-draw devices like phones and computers.
Non-rechargeable batteries are called primary cells and rechargeable batteries are called secondary cells.

BOOOOOOOOMERANGGGGG!!!!!
What is the purpose of the activity?
The purpose of the activity is to understand the patterns and the design of the Aboriginal boomerangs.
What the story of on your boomerang?
The big yellow circle on the top of the boomerang represents the sun, the smaller circles around it with yellow and black represent the sun rays and the night. The white background of the sun represents the sky. The two colour blue on the bottom represents the sea and water. The reddish-brown on top of the colour blue represents the land. Lastly, the bush-like design in the middle represents our food that grows on land with the help of water and sunshine. The story of this is that we need to protect Mother Earth in order for us to grow more food and for us to survive.
What went well when painting your boomerang?
I think that mixing my colour blue went well and also everything.

Lots of blues and whites.
Lots of people.
Girls have braided hair.
Boys have combed and short hair.
All of them are wearing their best clothes for the reaping.
They all look the same.
Their clothes are faded.
Girls are all in dresses.
Boys have a coloured shirt.
Very poor - living in poverty
Feel bad for them
Effie is juxtaposed to them - complete opposite, expensive clothes, lots of make-up, wigs, lots of colour
The director used this costume to show how poor District 12 is compared to Effie.

They all wear the same clothing - suits, jackets, t-shirts, running shoes, camouflage clothing, dark colours.
Makes the game interesting because it makes them hard to find.
We feel terrified for them.
Depersonalise them.
The director used these costumes to make us feel all the same, it also makes it easier to watch them die.
Theme: Rich vs Poor
Costumes are used effectively to show the imbalance between the rich and poor, the Capitol and District 12, in Panam. For instance, this is seen in the reaping scene where the figure of Effie Trinket is juxtaposed to those of District 12. In this scene, the children of District 12 are wearing dull, faded, simple clothes whilst Effie wears a vibrant pink outfit with an extravagant wig and over the top make-up. This makes us understand how unwealthy the people of District 12 are compared to people in the Capitol. The purpose of this is to show that life in all the districts is not as hard as it is in District 12. Coinciding with this is the use of setting. In district 12 everything is run down and old but in the Capitol, it is new, clean and colourful. The costumes in the reaping scene can be juxtaposed to these worn by citizens of the Capitol seen by Peeta and Katniss on the train.

Camera shots and angles are used effectively in the film 'Hunger Games'. For example, in the scene after the tribute parade where first see the character of President Snow. Gary Ross uses a combination of over the shoulder and high angle with an extreme long shot to show Snow addressing the crowd. This makes us understand that Snow is a powerful individual in the Capitol as everyone is listening to him. The purpose of this is to show Snow's supremacy among the people in the Capitol and the tributes. Coinciding with this, the use of setting shows a special place above others for Snow and below for the tributes. This can be juxtaposed to the scene later in the film where Katniss and Peeta reclaimed power by threatening to eat the poisonous berries in the arena.

In the film 'Hunger Games' camera angles and shots are used to portray different scenes. For example, in the scene, after Primrose got picked as a tribute for the 'Hunger Games', Katniss volunteered to take her sister's place. Later that scene, Katniss' was then appointed to go the stage and face the people of District 12. During this scene, Gary Ross uses a mixture of dutch tilt, low angle, and mid shot to show Katniss is out of place. This makes the audience feel that Katniss is helpless and alone. The purpose of this is to show that Katniss is vulnerable. Combined with Katniss' facial expression, it presumed the audience her vulnerability to being chosen as a tribute for the 'Hunger Games'. This can be juxtaposed later in the film where Katniss showed her bravery by killing another tribute with her bow and arrow.
Dutch tilt
- things are out of the normal
- Katniss is out of place, she volunteered as tribute to save her sister - she is saying I will die for my sister.
Low angle
- makes the object bigger/ more important
- Katniss is the first volunteer in District 12.
- She has just been selected to be tribute above all others.
Mid shot
- Makes the viewer an onlooker.
- Makes the audience feel like she is suddenly alone.
Katniss' facial expression makes her vulnerable.
