Music

In music we had finished almost everything from filming to making our own jingle that will later be sent to Fair Go Ad Awards. Some of my classmates are now editing the videos, putting them together. We had been working on our ad for at least 6 or 4 weeks. There are some challenges that my class had to go through. One of our challenges is that we couldn't go to one of our chosen venue to film. So we just left it and used some of our other videos we filmed to fit our 30 seconds ad.

What am I learning?

I am learning how to make a catchy jingle.

How does this work shows my learning?

Reflection time - Health Ed

A conclusion on what the 'Whare ta pa wha' is and how it illustrates Hauora

Whare Tapa Wha is about your four walls of well being. Taha tinana (Physical health), Taha Wairua (Spiritual health), Taha Whanau (Social well being), and Taha Hinengaro (Mental health). This is useful to understand because it can help you to have a healthy lifestyle.

How did you participate with others and how did you contribute to your team?

I participated okay and I contributed by helping my team on making the whare. I also helped with the definitions of the four walls, Taha Tinana, Taha Wairua, Taha Hinengaro, and Taha Whanau. Next time I will help my team more by writing more definitions of the four walls

Raising a plant

Aim:

To look at the different growing conditions and how these affect the growth of seeds.

Equipment:

  • Potting mix
  • Water
  • Radish seeds
  • 4 Cups
  • Cellophane (Blue, Red,)

Method:

  1. Put the potting mix into the cups.
  2. Plant the radish seeds into the cups.
  3.  Put the different coloured cellophane onto the 2 cups
  4. Water them
  5. Wait for the plants to grow.

Cup 1 - Normal
Cup 2 - Blue cellophane
Cup 3 - Red cellophane
Cup 4 - Over watered

The plants grew in their cups for 10 days before they were measured.

Findings:

Plant growing condition
Height after 10 days (mm)
Normal
30.6  mm
Blue cellophane
60.1 mm
Red cellophane
70 mm
Over water
10 mm
The normal seedling was planted in normal potting mix and grew to a height of 30.6 mm.
The blue cellophane seedling was planted in normal potting mix, covered in blue cellophane and watered. It grew to a height of 60.1 mm. The red cellophane seedling was planted in normal potting mix to a height of 70 mm. The ove rwatered seedling was planted in normal potting mix, it grew to a height of 10 mm.

Conclusion:

From the pictures and evidence we can conclude that:

The seedling height was:

1. 30.6 mm
2. 60.1 mm
3. 70 mm
4. 10 mm

The best growing conditions were:

1. Red cellophane
2. Blue cellophane
3. Normal
4. Over watered

therefore the seedling with red cellophane conditions grew to a height of 70 mm.

What I have been learning in English?

In English we have been learning about Traditional Tales. My teacher gave us a matrix where we can choose what task we can do after reading a story we chose. I read "Why Zebras Have Stripes" and chose a task that requires me to make a clay model about the character in the story.

Before:                                                                  After:

I didn't really know what I was doing when I started making my model, so I did some experiments. My first experiment was making the whole body and the head at the same time but unfortunately I failed. Then I tried to make my model step by step. First I made an oval shape and later shaped it as best as I can to look like a zebra's head. Then I made the body by making an oval shape and slowly shaping it like a zebra's body. After making the body, I then made the four legs. After shaping all of the clay, I stuck them all together into one. I find it difficult to make my model because I didn't know how to model a zebra.

What am I learning?

I am learning about traditional tales.

How does this work shows my learning?

This work shows my learning by making a model out of clay.

What am I wondering?

I am wondering if I could make my model better.
